AState 21 Utah State 14 Wrap-Up

Wow what a finish. And wow what a victory. And yes, it is one that is still very hard to believe Arkansas State won, but the Red Wolves did.

Now 2-2, the Red Wolves had several heroes emerge in the final minutes.

Start with Johnston White, who coach Blake Anderson said ‘I still don’t know if I’ve ever heard him say anything. The quiet redshirt freshman finished with 100 yards on 18 carries, and played a major role in the tying scoring drive. He got the TD on a 4-yard run with 4:58 left.

Artez Brown, burned early on a long scoring pass, blocked what would have been a game-winning field goal on the game’s final play to force overtime. He came off the edge and got both hands on the kick.

Dijon Paschal. We had heard a lot about the talented freshman, and he made a nice catch for the score on the second-play in overtime. Paschal said he knew the ball was coming to him when he was isolated on the play.

Stephen Hogan. The backup quarterback who has been holding for kicks for two years, made a nice scoop on a low snap and allowed Luke Ferguson to make the all-important PAT kick.

Charleston Girley. The redshirt junior made a bigtime hit on a Utah State receiver on a fourth down, knocking the ball loose and sending the crowd and players into euphoria.

*The most glaring is 4 turnovers. To lose the TO battle 4-1 and still win is huge.
*Utah State ran 4 more plays and had 97 more yards.
*Darion Griswold had a career-best 4 receptions.
*Johnson White had 100 yards rushing.
*Arkansas State had 10 negative yardage (minus 47) plays. Utah State had seven for minus 26.
*13 tackles for Quashaun Lee and Xavier Woodson. It was Lee’s 13th career game with double-figure stops.

“It was as ugly as it could possibly be at times. Maybe even more at times” – Blake Anderson.

“They made plays at the end and we didn’t. We had chances to do it. “ – Utah State coach Matt Wells.
