A Quiet Assault on the Record Book

Maybe it is because AState fans are so used to winning. Maybe it is because the expectations of excellence are so great. Maybe it’s just because Ryan Aplin cast such a large shadow that for many years to come the standard will be Ryan Aplin.

Whatever the reason, Fredi Knighten is mounting an assault on the Arkansas State single season record book and no one seems to be noticing.

While several Red Wolves are climbing the statistical charts, Knighten's move on the record book is mostly escaping notice.

The Red Wolves have four (hopefully five) games remaining in the 2014 season to add to the statistical totals but Knighten has already made it into the single season record book.

Knighten has already captured the 9th best season in pass completions with 169. He needs four more to tie Cleo Lemon’s 2000 season at 8th, 13 to tie Corey Leonard’s 2007 season and 13 to tie Cleo Lemon’s 1998 season. Knighten has completed at least 20 passes in the last three games. If he completes at least 20 on Saturday he will be 6th on the single season completions list. Knighten needs 12 completions to pass Kennedy on the career completions list and 29 to pass Dwayne Brown.

Knighten has already taken 10th in total offense for a single season with 2,346 yards. He is only 18 yards from passing #9 Nick Noce’s 2004 season. If Knighten posts 134 yards on Saturday he will tie Cleo Lemon’s 1996 season placing him 8th on the single season list. Knighten needs 743 yards to tie Richie Woit at 10th on the career list as AState.

With any combination of two passes or two runs Knighten will tie Nick Noce’s 2004 season for most plays of total offense and with four more will tie Noce’s 2005 season for 9th place.

Knighten needs only 173 passing yards to post the 10th best season in passing yards tying Nick Noce’s 2005 season. Another 63 yards will tie Noce’s 2004 season for 9th best.

Currently Knighten’s completion percentage of 64.3% ranks as the 4th best season in school history just behind Aplin’s 65.3 in 2009 and just ahead of Aplin’s 63.8 in 2011.

In addition to Knighten, other Red Wolves are moving up the statistical charts for AState.

Ja’von Rolland-Jones has six sacks and needs 2.5 more to tie for 10th best single season.

Luke Ferguson is currently tied for 5th best average yards per punt in a season.

Michael Gordon needs one more 100 yard rushing game to tie for 6th most 100 yard rushing games in a season. He is three rushing TD’s short of 7th most rushing TD’s in a year. Gordon needs two more 100 yard rushing games to tie Corey Walker at 7th on the career list. One more rushing TD will tie Corey Walker at 8th on the career chart.

Quashaun Lee needs 10 more tackles to be 5th all-time in a career in the Sun Belt and is 27 short of 5th in career tackles at AState.

J.D. McKissic already holds the career receptions leader spot with 228. He is seven career TD receptions from Taylor Stockemer’s 16 which is best in AState history. McKissic is third all-time in receiving yards. McKissic needs 546 yards to pass Lennie Johnson at the top and 262 to tie Dwayne Frampton in the #2 spot on the career list.
