Miller Visiting AState

Dequon Miller’s season is over and now the junior college point guard has a big decision to make.

With more than 40 offers, the 5-foot-11, 170-pound guard from Motlow (Tenn.) Community College has the Arkansas State Red Wolves high on his radar.

“I like them and I will make a visit there later this month,’’ said Miller, who is from Charleston, W.V. “Coach Scoot (Mike Scutero) has been recruiting me since he was at Kennesaw State and I didn’t even have any offers. I’ve known him a long time.”

He said he plans to visit the Red Wolves March 29-31 and will soon narrow his list to 10 schools.

“I want to go somewhere where the coach will let me play my game,’’ he said. “I need to be able to get out and run up and down the floor in an open court.”

The last two seasons at Motlow, Miller has been running up and down and all over the floor for a team that has posted a 37-20 mark the past two seasons, including 23-6 ledger this season. Miller averaged 19 points, 6.1 rebounds, 9 assists, 2.4 steals in 34.5 minutes per game. He shot 45.7 from the field, 39.9 on 3-pointers and 70.5 on free throws.

The Red Wolves’ John Brady, Scutero and Carlos Wilson watched Miller in a recent game in Memphis against Walters State. He scored 30, including 6 of 11 on 3-pointers, had 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals.

“That made quite an impression on me that the entire coaching staff was there to watch me,’’ he said.

Miller has earned NJCAA Honorable mention All-America, first team All-TCCAA and first team All-TCCAA the past two seasons.

He has not made a visit to Jonesboro but has gotten close. He said his girlfriend is from Earle and he has visited there.

The Red Wolves are the only visit he has set so far. At one time he held offers from Ole Miss, Tennessee and had Arkansas and Texas A&M showing interest. Offers have been reported from Western Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, North Texas, Kennesaw State and many others.
