Little Rock Bowl Not Done but Closer

The proposed Little Rock Bowl may be closer to reality but it has remaining hurdles to clear to reach certification for 2015 and future.

The Jonesboro Sun today indicated today that the long proposed Little Rock Bowl is close to becoming reality for 2015 or at least 2016.

The article notes that the proposed game lacks a television agreement. Certification of a new bowl requires that a game have a national television agreement in place at the time of application. Until a television agreement is executed the game cannot be certified.

A new bowl also requires two potential opponents to sign agreements to provide a team.

While sources at Arkansas State indicate that the American Athletic Conference has agreed to provide a team to the game, no agreement has been executed yet. The Sun Belt and the American will be meeting in Little Rock next week to further discuss an agreement and could potentially sign such an agreement at that time.

Little Rock came very close to certification for the 2014 season but the game fell apart when Montgomery aligned with ESPN and was able to secure agreements with the Sun Belt and MAC.

If the proposed Little Rock game is to be approved for the 2015 season, the game must submit a television agreement and the signed agreement of each league to provide teams no later than April 1 of this year.
