The Red Wolves scrimmaged for almost two hours and featured big plays on the defensive side of the ball including a returned fumble for a touchdown and safety in the early portion of the practice. Offensively, A-State saw production from its wide receiver and running backs groups who accounted for all the offensive scores on the evening.
“We had some turnovers early on the offensive side of the ball, but overall I thought the energy was great and I’m anxious to go look at the film,” A-State head coach Blake Anderson said. “The biggest thing is that we need to improve from this one to the next one and some of the young guys got a lot of good snaps for us to evaluate them on.”
Arkansas State had some minor injuries in the scrimmage to J.D. McKissic, Devin Mondie and Allen Sentimore but all three are expected to return to action during the Spring period.
The Red Wolves opened spring camp March 13 and have held seven practices to this point, including two this week before Friday night’s scrimmage. It was the first time that A-State has scrimmaged this spring and the team will have one more on Friday, April 10 in preparation for it’s annual Spring Game April 17 at 6 p.m.
“We got almost 60 snaps in today so we have a lot plays to evaluate the guys on,” Anderson said. “Monday we will look at cleaning up some things and Wednesday we have a little bit more install to do and hopefully we can get another game in on Friday if all goes the way we hope it will.”
