Moreton Draws First Offer from Arkansas State

There aren’t a lot of secrets about the Arkansas State Red Wolves football program for Hunter Moreton.

After all for the past 3 years he has been to almost ever Red Wolves’ home game to watch his brother Austin play. He has an inside view of the program few prospects have.

So when the A-State defensive line coach Brian Early, who recruits northwest Arkansas, called him after the Red Wolves camp in Springdale Tuesday he was caught a little by surprise.

“I did not expect them to offer me, not this early,’’ said Moreton, who plays mostly on the offensive line at Fort Smith Southside. “I thought I might get some offers later in the year. Coach Early had been talking to my coaches and they told me to call and he offered.

“But I had a real good camp.”

Moreton is 6-foot-1, 275 pounds and started on the Class 7A Rebels’ offensive line and rotated on the defensive line.

“I don’t like either one over the other,’’ he said. “I just like to play and I like to win. That is what is important to me.

“I am somewhat of an aggressive player. I like to play hard. I hate to lose.”

He said his brother was very excited when he told him the news.

“Oh yeah, he was very proud,’’ said Moreton.

“I do know a lot about the program. We have been coming to games for a while. We’ve seen a lot of changes.”
