Big Pack Weekend Recap

The recent Big Pack Weekend once again paid big dividends for the Arkansas State Red Wolves football program.

In all there were 11 commitments reported over a four-day span, two players Grant and Smith have clarified that they did not commit but remain interested bringing the Red Wolves’ total to 14 for the season.

Here is a look at the latest Red Wolves commitments.

Ben Sukut, safety, 6-foot-1, 175, Capistrano Valley (Calif.) Christian.

Sukut (Soo-Ket) played his sophomore season for A-State coach Dan Dodd in California. He was offered as soon as Dodd joined the Red Wolves staff a year ago. He holds offers from BYU and San Diego State. Intelligent safety who plays downhill and has family in Jonesboro area.

Jeremy Lewis, running back, 6-1, 195, Lone Grove, Okla.

A big physical running back. Holds an offer from Nebraska, which still wants him to visit. He was one of the Red Wolves’ top running back targets.

Torrance Marable, cornerback, 5-10, 180, Decatur (Ga,) Towers.

Projects at a cornerback at next level. Ran a 4.34 40 at the A-State camp in Georgia. He played receiver and D-back in high school and is also a talented kick returner. Well-built with speed.

Jeremy Smith, cornerback, 5-11, 157, Atlanta, Texas.

A confident sprinter who could be a college hurdler if he wasn’t a football player. Ran in the 4.3-4.4 range at the Red Wolves’ camp in Texarkana. Somewhat comparable to Rocky Hayes who also plays receiver and is a kick returner. Has good lateral movement.

Trent Ellis, LB-safety, 6-2, 190, Daphne, Ala.

He is a long, rangy athlete who can run. Similar to Xavier Woodson. Strong football IQ and upside. Will likely grow into a linebacker. A product of a strong football program.

Onyx Brown, LB-DE, 6-3, 205, Daphne, Ala.

He transferred to Daphne this season. He is a big body who can really run and like Ellis will likely grow into a linebacker.

Javonnis Isaac, TE, 6-3, 214, Lafayette (La.) Acadianna

Will be a tight end-H-Back type. Has offers from several in-state FBS schools. Strong academics. A strong weight room guy he has offers from Louisiana-Lafayette, Tulane and Colorado State

Cedrick Wilson, WR-DB, 6-3, 170, Coffeyville (Kan.) CC

A native of Mississippi who is a little on the thin side now but expected to fill out. Looking to help fill holes on a depleted receiving corps next season in Jonesboro. Will be a mid-term guy.

Shawn Thomas, CB-WR, 6-1, 185, NE Oklahoma CC.

At athlete who could be a two-way player for the Red Wolves. Recruited mainly as a cornerback but skills are good enough to also see some time at receiver. Also projects as a return guy. Will be a mid-term guy.

Troy Grant, WR, 6-3, 200, Highland (Kan.) CC. Initially reported as a commit, has indicated strong interest in AState. A Floridian, he was a teammate of A-State DL Jake Swalley in junior college. Tall, rangy receiver. Will be a mid-term guy.

Shannon Smith, WR 6-4, 208, NE Oklahoma CC.

Also reported initially as a commit, indicates AState is his leader right now. Is a big, physical wide receiver. Will be a mid-term guy.
