Arkansas State gained national attention by sending Hugh Freeze and Gus Malzahn straight into SEC coaching jobs after one season as head coach for the Red Wolves.
AState is gaining new attention this week as the Red Wolves host #21 Missouri, the highest ranked team to ever play at Centennial Bank Stadium.
During the Southeastern Conference coaches teleconference each were asked about Missouri's trip to Arkansas State.
While Gus Malzahn is well known for having little to say unless a question is directly related to his team he was almost effusive about what Missouri should expect.
"The atmosphere in Jonesboro, it’ll be big-time," the Auburn coach said. "They’ll have to play well. I’m sure Missouri’s not taking them lightly, and they shouldn’t be.”
Malzahn added, "That’s a real big deal. Those players and those coaches will be ready. And that fan base will be ready, too. That’ll be a real good atmosphere for college football.”
Hugh Freeze on the other hand has earned a reputation for speaking at length on most any subject but had less to say on the game. He praised Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel for making the trip saying it "speaks a lot for Coach Pinkel to go there".
Freeze said he hadn't studied Arkansas State lately but he expected the atmosphere would be electric.
