After 2 games we still have a lot of questions. There have been struggles but the competition has been brutal.
So does game 3 tell us anything? Perhaps not. Missouri State is down and struggled to defeat a Division II team last week. First-year head coach who has a major rebuilding job ahead of him.
The game comes at a good time. There are some beat-up Red Wolves, who will likely sit out this week. More on that later.
Anderson said A-State played much better against Missouri and the opportunity to win was there.
“We have got to seize opportunities when given to us,’' said Anderson.
It is very obvious the defensive front has improved tremendously and interior lineman Robert Mondie and Waylon Roberson have played well to this point.
The thinning depth at linebacker and defensive back is a growing concern. It helps the Xavier Woodson returns this week vs. Missouri State.
As far as playing the 1-1 Bears, Anderson said “right now it is more about us and it may be that way the rest of the season.”
On the weekly Sun Belt teleconference call Blake Anderson said Fredi Knighten is out 1 to 2 weeks. Redshirt freshman James Tabary will start with Cameron Birse No. 2 and frosh DJ Pearson No. 3.
Fredi injury is a pull not a tear,” Anderson said.
Juco transfer defensive back Bo Sentimore out for year with broken bone in lower leg and promising freshman linebacker Tajheah Chambers out for year with torn ACL.
Blaise Taylor may be another week. Feeling is they are going to get him ready for Toledo.
Game time for Toledo has been set for 6 p.m. central on Saturday, Sept. 26. Game is expected to be on ESPN3 but no official word yet.
