McKissic Sun Belt Special Teams player of the week for Arkansas State

J.D. McKissic named Sun Belt special teams player of the week

Senior J.D. McKissic has been named the Sun Belt Conference’s Special Teams Student-Athlete of the Week after breaking the Arkansas State record for kick return yards in a game this weekend at Toledo.

McKissic racked up 211 return yards, including a 92-yard return for a touchdown in the second quarter.  His 211 yards were the second most in the nation this season and the fifth most ever by a Sun Belt Conference player.  McKissic’s 92-yard return was the 10th longest in school history and the first return for a touchdown by an A-State player since he accomplished the feat on a 98-yard return versus Idaho in 2013.

He became the 10th player in Sun Belt history to post two kickoff return touchdowns in a career. McKissic increased his career kickoff return yardage total to 1,225 yards, which is the fifth most in school history.

The Phenix City, Ala., native enters this weekend’s home matchup needing just three receptions to become the Sun Belt Conference’s all-time leader with 263 career receptions. He ranks first in the nation among active players with 260 career receptions and is fourth in the nation with 4,205 all-purpose yards.

The Red Wolves return home to take on Idaho Saturday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. at Centennial Bank Stadium. The game will be televised on ESPN3.
