Coach Anderson discusses recruiting and injuries

The Arkansas State Red Wolves had the weekend off so the players had no practice and the coaching staff spent time checking on the Red Wolves’ commitments.

Defensive line coach Brian Early and Paschall visited high school prospects on Friday and spent time at junior colleges on Thursday, Early in Kansas and Luke Paschall in Mississippi.  Paschall was in south Alabama (Daphne) and Early in Fayetteville for Friday.

Offensive coordinator Walt Bell watched quarterback commit Logan Bonner of Rowlett, Texas and offensive line coach Glen Elarbee was in Texas for the McKinney Boyd (Brandon Bowling) vs. Flower Mound Marcus (Troy Elliott) that featured a couple of Red Wolves’ commitments. Elliott and Marcus won that one 31-9

Defensive back coach Allen Johnson watched Atlanta, Texas’ Jeremy Smith play. Trooper Taylor was in the Atlanta area, Anthony Tucker was in Alabama and defensive coordinator Joe Cauthen was in Tennessee to watch his son play.

Anderson said nothing has happened since the beginning of the season to create a new area of need for the 2016 class.

“We still need the same things, wide out, tight end, defensive end, mike linebacker and cornerback,’’ the coach said.

“We will take the guys who we will are the best match for our team and who we feel makes us better. That might be a junior college guy or it might be a high school guy.”

No major injuries from the UL-Lafayette game. Cody Brown had his hand stepped on but is not expected to miss any time.

The best news is Anderson said he expects Daniel Keith back this week.

“We don’t know what the role will be but we expect him back in some capacity,’’ he said.
