Sun Belt Men's Basketball Heads To League Play after a mixed bag in non-conference

A mixed bag for the league in non-conference play

Sun Belt basketball for 2015-16 is looking a great deal like the 2015 Sun Belt football season. The league has three schools that out-performed the rest of the league with a big gap between the top three and the rest of the conference.

According to RealTimeRPI.com the league has three teams in the Top 50, Texas-Arlington, UALR, and Georgia State were all top 50 on New Year’s Day morning. No teams from the Sun Belt were rated 51-200 in the RPI.

While the top three have wins over schools like Ohio State, Memphis, DePaul, and Tulsa, the rest of the league has suffered losses to bottom 100 schools such as Furman, Citadel, and Southern Miss.

For the most part, Sun Belt teams have been winning against weak teams, losing to good teams and splitting the in-between games. That has left the league ranked 18th in the current RPI.

The Sun Belt has gone 60-54 in non-conference with an average RPI of 202 but only the top three are rate better than that average.
