Arkansas State had four national television appearances in 2015.
The Red Wolves were part of the second most watched ESPNU Thursday night game, when they rallied to defeat Appalachian State with an explosive third quarter.
The two Tuesday night appearances went up against playoff baseball. The match-up vs Louisiana-Lafayette went head-to-head against the Cubs and Mets. The ESPN2 football telecast drew an average of 351,000 viewers over the three plus hours. AState lead by 20 at the half and 23 shortly into the third quarter. The USA game was head-to-head against the Dodgers – Mets, starting just after the Cubs took the division series over the Cardinals. The USA game drew an average of 287,000 viewers and many may have believed AState wouldn’t make it interesting once USA took an 11 point lead in the third quarter.
The New Orleans Bowl kicking off a 9:20 pm on a Saturday drew an average audience of 1.45 million, the second lowest bowl audience in five years for AState. A few bowls posted lower audiences WKU-USF, Akron-Utah State, Boise State – Northern Illinois. The New Orleans audience was larger than the 1.37 million watching AState vs. Toledo but below the 1.71 million who watched AState-Ball State, the 1.8 million for AState vs. NIU and the 1.9 million for AState vs. Kent State.
