Justin Manning - AState Sports Information

Looking deeper at viewership for AState football.

More on viewership numbers.

Numbers for most of AState’s games. Had no luck tracking down USC or Toledo numbers or the online for the New Orleans Bowl.

I wouldn’t consider the numbers to be great but rather solid when looking at other G5 schools. There are some important broadcast conflicts to note. Both Tuesday night games went up against the MLB playoffs. The Thursday night match-up with App was surprisingly strong up against a Big XII game, the NFL and later in the game an SEC game started.

I tend to believe that with more fan education the online numbers could be a good better. The two conference road games that were not on ESPN2 or ESPNU averaged just over 12,000 that is equal to about 1.1% of TV households in the state. Taking the polling data that 13% of Arkansans identify as Arkansas State fans over any other college (that would be roughly 130,000 TV households with a fan) and just under 66% of people in Arkansas have high speed internet (ahead of only Mississippi) that’s potentially just over 85,000 homes in Arkansas that would be expected to have some interest and the capacity to stream games on a computer, tablet, phone, or television.
