Enhanced Sun Belt standings through 1-17-2017

With the Red Wolves off to a good start in the Sun Belt, it’s time to dust off an old standby from the days of relevant Arkansas State basketball. The TRS version of the conference standings.

Former UNO head coach Tim Floyd on a few occasions said the key to being in the hunt for the conference title is winning your home games and splitting the road games. He suggested more than once that the standings should include a column to help fans have a better sense of how a team was doing in that pursuit.

Floyd suggested that a road win should be worth +1. Home wins and road losses 0, and home losses -1. UNO fan Jim Tonglet tracked this for years on the old BeltBoard.com site.

The Sun Belt is playing an 18 game schedule so an undefeated season would be +9, undefeated at home and 5-4 on the road would be +5 and have a very good shot at the top seed in the Sun Belt tournament.

Currently Georgia Southern is leading in the win column and the TRS value, Coastal is a game back and one point back. AState, UT Arlington, and Georgia State are two games out of first and one TRS point behind Georgia Southern, while Texas State is also two games out of first but two points back.
