Post-season possibilities for Arkansas State men's basketball

Latest look at AState's post-season chances.

A home split leaves the Red Wolves with two more regular season games to play. AState will make the Alabama swing to complete the season and try to build on a school record 20 regular season wins. Another victory would give AState 20 wins over Division I competition.

Winning the Sun Belt Tournament in New Orleans is AState’s only path to the NCAA Tournament. Securing one of the first round byes to make a three game challenge instead of a four game challenge will be important for the Red Wolves hopes.

The win over Georgia State erased most of AState’s woes with the RPI. Georgia State was a quality RPI win lifting AState 9 spots to 84. Before that change I felt AState was a true bubble team and wasn’t sure if it were a last four in or first four out situation.

The problem is Troy is rated 200 and USA is rated 223. Losses to either will have a more significant impact than losing to 115 Georgia Southern. AState will lose RPI ground if the Red Wolves can’t make the Alabama trip a sweep.

NIT Bracketology currently tabs AState as a 7 seed facing Kansas State.

AState is in great position for any of the other three events. At this point AState’s interest in any of the three would be about practice time and possible opponents. In the case of CIT and CBI the possibility of a home game would be the driving factor.
