Barnett Commits to Arkansas

The University of Arkansas gets a win on Saturday and also lands Hurst (Texas) Bell tight end Chris Barnett (6-6, 250, 4.52), a four-star prospect who is on his official visit to Fayetteville this weekend.

Not only did the University of Arkansas pick up a big win on Saturday, they picked up a big-time tight end.

Just an hour or so after the Razorbacks downed Ole Miss 38-24, Hurst (Texas) Bell standout Chris Barnett (6-6, 250, 4.52) announced publicly that he had committed to the school.

Barnett, the nation's 8th-best TE and the 152nd best player overall according to, is on his official visit to Arkansas this weekend.

"I've been sitting here for the last seven or eight months thinking Arkansas is where I need to be," Barnett said. "It just feels so right and I love the coaches and feel great about going ahead and making my decision."

Barnett, who is a December gradyate and will be able to go through spring practice with the Razorbacks, committed to Oklahoma last spring before deciding he had rushed his decision and backing off that pledge.

"I just had to slow down and take my time and when it was all said and done, Arkansas is the right place for me," Barnett said. "I just announced it like 20 minutes ago, but I've known this for awhile."

Barnett chose Arkansas, Oregon, Miami, Alabama, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Notre Dame, Utah, Florida State, Tennessee, Stanford, Colorado and TCU among others.

"The game today was just great," Barnett said. "I love the fans, the atmosphere and the players around here. I want to play my college football here."

He will continue to work on landing his buddy Anthony Wallace, a 5-star linebacker from Dallas Skyline who has made several unofficial trips with Barnett to Fayetteville.

"One of the best things about Arkansas is I think they are bringing in a great class of players in 2011," Barnett said, " and I want to be a part of that and help get even more players in here to make this an even better program. I want to be a leader in this class so it's time for me to go ahead and get on board."
