Arkansas Adds Highsmith

Per a source, Arkansas has added a commitment from Phoenix College linebacker Alonzo Highsmith (6-2, 215). That means the Razorbacks have landed both of the NJCAA Region I Co-Defensive Players of the Year since they already had a pledge from honoree Isiah Wiley (6-0, 189), the cornerback from Arizona Western College.

Arkansas' win over LSU may have already shown an instant benefit as Phoenix College linebacker Alonzo Highsmith has committed to the Razorbacks per a source.

Highsmith (6-2, 215) chose Arkansas over Washington, Cinicinnati and SMU among others and becomes the fourth prospect from Arizona among the Razorbacks' 24 commits in the 2011 class.

He is the son of the former University of Miami and NFL star of the same name.

Highsmith is coming off a season in which he had 94 tackles, 12 tackles for lost yardage, four sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and also posted two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

That earned him NJCAA Region I Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors along with fellow Razorback commit Isiah Wiley (6-0, 189) of Arizona Western College.

He was also named the Western States Football League Defensive Player of the Year Award.
