The Bainbridge-to-Fayetteville pipeline will continue for a few more years.
Bainbridge (GA) athlete Rohan Gaines (5-11, 175) committed to Arkansas on Sunday morning at the conclusion of his official visit.
He will be following in the footsteps of a pair of former Bainbridge stars in former Razorback Malcolm Sheppard and current Arkansas senior offensive lineman Ray Dominguez, his host of the weekend.
"The thing I liked best about my visit was that the coaches and players just made me feel at home and like I was already part of the family," Gaines said. "I found everything I need here so I wanted to go ahead and commit."
He was one of two commits the Razorbacks got during the weekend with North Carolina Tech linebacker Tyler Gilbert (6-3, 242).
Gaines, who played quarterback and wideout this season for Bainbridge in addition to free safety, notes Arkansas plans for him to be a defender in college.
He is destined for free safety, but could be a guy that plays the hybrid spot that current Razorback Jerico Nelson has excelled so much at in his career.
His mentality harkens back to the Adam Sandler movie "You Don't Mess with the Zohan."
"I love to come up and hit people," Gaines said. "They are talking about me starting out at free safety and seeing where it goes from there."
Although he is viewed as one of the state's better athletes, Gaines offers to this point were from Middle Tennessee State, Georgia Southern and Georgia State.
Gaines, who had never been on a plane until this weekend, had started to receive interest lately from Arkansas, Georgia and Georgia Tech.
"Arkansas's coaches believe in me and I am going to reward them for that by coming in and working hard every day and being the best football player I can be and helping them win," Gaines said. "I know I can get it done on the SEC level."
