Hogs Back Baxendale

Matt Reynolds socked a two-run homer and Collin Kuhn added a three-run blast as the Hogs supported DJ Baxendale with another night of heavy offense. The Hogs improved to 12-1.

Arkansas jumped to a 10-0 lead then turned the pitching over to the youngsters down the stretch with mixed results in a 11-6 victory Friday night at Tony Gwynn Stadium.

Sophomore DJ Baxendale (4-0) got the victory with five shutout innings in the starting assignment. Baxendale still has an 0.00 ERA in 19 innings on the mound this season. Trent Daniel pitched two innings of scoreless relief after Baxendale.

The Hogs also got a good outing on the mound from freshman closer Nolan Sanburn, who pitched the last 1.1 inning to get the save. In between, the pitching was a little shaky. The Aztecs made things interesting with six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning against Ben Hayes and Barrett Astin.

The Hogs have beaten the Aztecs two straight two open the series in San Diego. They meet two more times. Freshman Brandon Moore is slated to start for the Hogs on Saturday night.

Kyle Robinson had a team-high three hits to lead Arkansas at the plate. Collin Kuhn homered for the second straight game and drove in three runs, while Matt Reynolds also homered and had two RBI. Tim Carver, Dominic Ficociello and James McCann each added a pair of hits.

Arkansas jumped on the Aztecs early, scoring twice in the first. Jacob Morris drew a walk with one out and was along for the ride on Reynolds second homer of the season, a two-run blast to left field.

The Razorbacks made the lead 6-0 with four runs in the second. McCann singled to center with one out and then moved to second on a two-out single by Carver. Kuhn followed with his second home run of the series, a three-run shot over the left-center field fence. Morris then doubled over the right fielder's head and moved to third on an infield single by Reynolds. Reynolds then stole second and the throw from the catcher went into center field, allowing Morris to score from third for the fourth run of the inning.

Arkansas tacked on two more runs in the third. Ficociello doubled to the right-center field gap to lead off the inning and Bo Bigham drew a walk. McCann moved both runners up a base with a sacrifice bunt. McKinney scored both base runners with a double down the left field line to put the Razorbacks in front 8-0.

The Razorbacks scored a single run in the fourth on a two-out RBI single by McCann.
