Auburn 9, Arkansas 5

Kevin Patterson's grand slam lifts Auburn over Arkansas 9-5 Saturday afternoon in SEC baseball action.

Auburn, Ala. - Arkansas made Auburn nervous in the ninth, but just couldn't get that one last hit needed to get Saturday's game to extra innings.

Thus Kevin Patterson's grand slam in a six-run fourth proved to be enough to lead the Tigers over the Razorbacks 9-5 Saturday afternoon and set up a rubber game in this weekend's SEC series.

Matt Reynolds' two-run RBI single and Kyle Robinson's bases-loaded walk brought the tying run to the plate, but reliever Sean Ray got Dominic Ficociello to pop up to short to end the game.

Arkansas (15-3, 1-1) and Auburn (13-6, 1-1) will meet Sunday at 1 p.m. to decide the series victor.

Lefty Cade Lynch will throw for the Razorbacks on Sunday.

The Razorbacks jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Bo Bigham's RBI single off Auburn winner Will Irvin (3-0) in the second inning that plated Robinson.

Consecutive doubles by Matt Reynolds and Sam Bates pushed it to 2-0 an inning later.

But the bottom fell out for Arkansas freshman starter Brandon Moore (2-1) in the fourth when the Tigers batted around.

Tony Caldwell's RBI single proceeded Patterson's blast and Brooks Beisner's double then chased Moore (six runs on seven hits) in favor of Ryne Stanek.

Beisner made it 6-2 when he came around on back-to-back sacrifice bunts later in the frame.

Stanek was gone an inning later after the home team added two more and pushed it to 9-2 in the seventh on Creede Simpson's sacrifice fly off of Jeff Harvill.
