The fact that Arkansas hit the Daily Double earlier this week in Oklahoma turned out to be just a coincidence.
Owasso wide receiver Keon Hatcher (6-2, 195, 4.5) and Tulsa Booker T. Washington cornerback Jared Collins (5-10, 170, 4.38) both committed to the Razorbacks on Monday.
Even though they have become good friends and workout partners, neither knew the other was making a pledge.
"It's kind of wild the way that went down," Hatcher said. "We met when we both came over to Arkansas camp (in June) and did because we both got there a little late. We just hit it off really well.
"We both got an offer the same day after the camp and we have been working out together and texting about the future," Hatcher said. "But I had no idea he was going to commit. I actually called over to commit and they said he had as well. It's great. I am going to have a friend over there and a very good player."
Hatcher, No. 1 on the Tulsa World's All-World receiver list for 2011, caught 76 passes for over 1,100 yards and 10 touchdowns last season.
Arkansas was his only major offer to this point, but Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and TCU were also showing interest in a 16-year-old young man who skipped a grade early and should be just a junior now.
"My father and I talked about it, I thought about it a lot and I just believe that God gave me a great opportunity to become an Arkansas Razorback and that is what I am going to be," Hatcher said. "I am solid in my commitment and now I can just worry about school, having a great senior season and winning a state title."
Hatcher and Owasso will face Arkansas power Bentonville on Aug. 26 in the Gridiron Classic in Tulsa. Springdale Har-Ber will test Tulsa Union.
"We start practice next Monday and I am really looking forward to the Gridiron Classic and the regular season," Hatcher said. "I have a great quarterback in (2012 prospect) Kason Key and I think we are going to have a big season."
Collins had three interceptions and 21 tackles last season.
"He's going to be a great player for us," Hatcher said. "He is so fast and is really coming into his own. We have had some really good workouts getting ready for the season."
The Razorbacks have 14 commits for the 2012 class.
