It's A Wise Commit For Razorbacks

Hebron (Texas) defensive end Deatrich Wise (6-5, 235) has known for a while that he was going to be a Razorback, but decided Saturday was the right time to go public with his commit to Arkansas.

The 2012 Razorback recruiting class is looking pretty strong off the edge.

Carrollton (Texas) Hebron defensive end Deatrich Wise (6-5, 235) to Arkansas confirmed Saturday that he was ready to go public with a private commit to the Razorbacks that he made back on July 25.

"I like how they have a chance to win the SEC championship, how they are an up and coming program and how they have improved each year," Wise said. "I want to be a part of that."

Wise, who is Arkansas' 15th commit of the 2012 class, also had offers from Arizona, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest and Arkansas State.

Wise was one of the standouts at Arkansas football camp in July along with Memphis Ridgeway defensive end Brandon Lewis (6-5, 230), who committed to the Razorbacks right after the camp was over.

Wise had 7 sacks among his 40 tackles as a junior last season and noted that lead recruiter John L. Smith, defensive ends coach Steve Caldwell and head coach Bobby Petrino were three big factors in his decision.

"The reason I chose to be a Razorback was Coach Smith, Coach Caldwell and Coach Petrino and I also liked Arkansas as a program when I visited the campus. I liked the school, they had my major (agriculture), I liked the environment around the campus and how the people are."

Wise, the son of Deatrich Sr. - who played in the NFL and CFL and has coached on every level - noted that those three coaches were very excited about his commit back on July 25th.

"Coach Caldwell couldn't wait to get Coach Petrino on the phone and he said they were very happy to have me on board," Wise said.
