Lowe's Dream Comes True

Bearden athlete DeFonta Lowe (6-3, 185, 4.5) wasted little time in committing to Arkansas after getting an offer from the Razorbacks on Thursday and becomes the program's 18th commit of the 2012 recruiting class.

Defonta Lowe's dream became his reality on Thursday afternoon.

Lowe (6-3, 185), 4.5), a standout quarterback for Bearden's football team, has long waited for a chance to play his college football for Arkansas.

The Razorbacks – who see a prospect that could play wide receiver, cornerback or safety - put a scholarship offer on the table Thursday and he quickly committed.

"It's a honor and I couldn't be happier," Lowe said. "When you are little you grow up wanting to be a Razorback, but you really don't think you'll ever get the chance. I can't believe my dream is coming true."

Lowe, who already had an offer from Arkansas State, becomes the 18th commit of the 2012 class for Arkansas.

He got word to call Arkansas assistant Steve Caldwell.

"I was in school about 1:30 when I got the message to call him," Lowe said. "I did and couldn't believe that they were offering me, but I was so happy. I committed right away and he said that's what they were hoping I would do."

He rushed for 1,543 yards and 24 touchdowns last season and also passed for 1,233 yards as Bearden went 10-2.

Lowe rushed for 174 yards and 4 touchdowns in his team's 35-14 season-opening win over Camden Harmony Grove last weekend and play at Woodlawn Friday night.

"I am not sure where Arkansas is going to put me, probably several positions," Lowe said. "I just want to do whatever I need to do to help us win."
