High-Flying Holmes

Arkansas commit Nate Holmes (6-1, 185) is having an extremely productive senior season for his undefeated Port Arthur (Texas) Memorial squad and dreaming of playing as a Razorback at Cowboys Stadium.

Arkansas commit Nate Holmes is averaging a first down each time he's handed the ball.

The Port Arthur Memorial tailback has carried 53 times for 563 yards and seven touchdowns and also has a touchdown receiving.

"I am averaging 10 yards a carry and that's because I have been getting some great blocking and been able to outrun the defense," Holmes said. "It's been a fun season so far."

Memorial is off to a 5-0 start.

"We are hoping to take it to 16-0 and win the state championship," Holmes said. "I think we have the talent and work ethic to do that."

Holmes was one of the earliest Arkansas commits and has been told he would likely be used in the manner a current Razorback is now.

"They are talking about me playing wide receiver, but then also carrying the ball some out of the backfield and also running some reverses like they do with Joe Adams," Holmes said. "That sounds great to me, but I will play on offense or defense or wherever I need to do to help the team."

Holmes is excited about the opportunity to play as a Razorback in Cowboys Stadium, where the Razorbacks play Texas A&M this weekend and each season in the Southwest Classic.

"That's going to be like a dream come true, making plays for the Razorbacks in the best stadium in the world," Holmes said. "It's really going to be a honor and was certainly something I thought about when I decided to go ahead and commit to Arkansas.

"It's also going to be good to have A&M in the SEC because my family will get to read more about the SEC down here in the papers and see it on TV," Holmes added. "I think that is going to be a great deal for both teams."

Teams are still trying to recruit Holmes despite his pledge to Arkansas.

"Yes, sir, I continue to get recruited by some other schools such as Texas Tech, Kentucky, SMU and Memphis and some others," Holmes said. "But I am solid to Arkansas. That's where I am going to sign."
