Arkansas Impresses Williams

Arkansas hosted six players officially this past weekend, including the nation's top junior college back in Arizona Western's Damien Williams (6-1, 215), who rushed for nearly 2,000 yards this season.

The nation's leading junior college rusher is looking for a new home and Arkansas could end up being just the place.

Arizona Western tailback Damien Williams (6-1, 215) – a very soft commit to Arizona State - took an official visit to Arkansas this weekend and has three more stops to make before making a decision.

Williams said the Razorbacks have set the bar pretty high for the other programs he plans to visit – Tennessee (Jan. 13-15), Oklahoma (Jan. 20-22) and Texas Tech (Jan. 27-29).

"I had a great visit to Arkansas, especially how crazy the fans were at the Catfish Hole (Restaurant) and how much they support their team," Williams said. "They also have great facilities and I really enjoyed being around the players and coaches. I am going to take my other visits, but Arkansas has put itself up there at the top."

Williams – who visited Arkansas along with Arizona Western linebacker Steffon Martin (6-2, 238) and four others - led the nation's junior college ranks this season with 1,931 yards and scored a whopping 26 touchdowns.

"I feel like I am a big back who can do a lot of things running tough inside or when I get out in the open," Williams said. "I just try to run hard and make plays for my team.

"I had a great offensive line this season and out team was not just a team, but a family," Williams added.

Williams is still committed to Arizona State, but a coaching change has him looking around.

Dennis Erickson was let go and Todd Graham is the new head coach for the Sun Devils after leaving Pittsburgh after one year there.

Williams had committed to Arizona State out of San Diego (CA) Mira Mesa High School and then out of junior college.

"I recently talked to someone on the staff, but it is just kind of up in the air there and I am going to have to see what comes out of that," Williams said. "I just need to get out and make these visits and then sit down with my mom and go over things."
