DJ Baxendale pitched eight scoreless innings and Arkansas beat Tennessee 8-0 Thursday night in Knoxville, Tenn.
Baxendale earned his first win since April 8. He struck out seven batters, walked none and didn't allow the first of his two hits until the sixth.
The junior has been outstanding in conference play, allowing only nine earned runs combined in his last six starts. He had lost his last three starts, however, because of a lack of run support.
That wasn't the case Thursday, though, as the Razorbacks scored seven runs through the first three innings, thanks in large part to four solo home runs.
Derrick Bleeker led the offensive charge with solo home runs in both the second and third innings, and a RBI double in the eighth.
Matt Reynolds and Brian Anderson hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning to give Arkansas a 2-0 lead. Reynolds, who went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, extended his hit streak to 10 games and reached base for the 37th consecutive game.
Arkansas (37-17, 14-14 SEC) chased Tennessee starter Dalton Saberhagen after two innings. Saberhagen gave up seven runs on seven hits and walked two.
Brandon Zajac cooled the Razorbacks' bats in 6 1/3 innings of relief, but it wasn't near enough for the Volunteers (24-29, 2-20).
Tennessee recorded only two hits and stranded two runners in the ninth when Arkansas reliever Ty Wright issued a pair of walks.
The shutout was the eighth this season for the Razorbacks.
Arkansas recorded 12 hits. In addition to the three from Bleeker and Reynolds, freshmen Anderson and John Clay Reeves each recorded two.
Head coach Dave Van Horn missed the game for the Razorbacks while attending his daughter's high school graduation. It was the first game the coach has missed in his 10 years at the school.
The two teams will play again Friday at 5 p.m. Sophomore right-hander Ryne Stanek (6-3, 2.99 ERA) will start on the mound for Arkansas after missing last weekend with a back injury.
