New Razorback Invasion

Owasso (OK) wide receiver Keon Hatcher (6-2, 205) is one of 18 Arkansas 2012 signees that officially reported to Fayetteville on Sunday to join two mid-term enrollees. Two more signees are expected in the next couple of days and the final trio is set to report in July.

No offense to Burger King's current ad campaign, but "Exciting Things" are happening Sunday in Fayetteville.

The vast majority of the 2012 Arkansas recruiting class officially reported with 18 all checked in, two more due in the next couple of days and then the other three set to enroll in the second summer session.

It's an interesting time for the youngest Razorbacks according to Owasso (OK) wide receiver Keon Hatcher (6-2, 205).

"It's kind of a bitter-sweet feeling," Hatcher said. I'm excited about going to college, but it is tough leading my mom, little brother and the rest of my family.

"At the same time, they know I am on a mission to go get an education and play for an elite football program," Hatcher added. "It's the next step for me so while it is kind of sad, mostly it's exciting and a great time."

Defensive end Austin Flynn and tight end Demetrius Dean – two other members of that 2012 class – were mid-term additions and went through spring practice.

Razorback head coach John L. Smith has said recently he expects all 25 players to be on campus and eligible.

Hatcher, who had 100 catches for 1,610 yards and 20 touchdowns last season, could be one of newcomers that ends up getting significant playing time this season.

That's because of his talent and depth at the position has been hurt due to Arkansas' trio of talented senior receivers now in the NFL and some recent legal issues of some underclassman.

"I will say simply that I am ready and have been putting in the work to be ready from day one," Hatcher said.

Hatcher says the newcomers have already bonded before their official arrival.

"We were all real cool with each other on our official visits when we got a chance to meet," Hatcher said. "Then we got a chance to meet all the others at the Red-White game (on April 21). It also helps that we have all been able to get to know each other via the social network – twitter and facebook – so we have gotten to know each other even without being in the same room."

Hatcher will room with Allen (Texas) tailback Jonathan Williams, Waco (Texa) High cornerback Will Hines and Suwanee (GA) Peachtree Ridge cornerback Ray Buchanan, Jr.

"All those guys are really cool," Hatcher said. "They are my boys and we are already really close. It's going to be great."

Hatcher, whose mom got him some Razorback floor mats as a going away gift, says the new class are not planning on dropping the ball – literally or figuratively.

"All the freshmen really like each other and all have one goal – to keep this program an elite one and to just keep getting better," Hatcher said. "That starts now."
