Johnson Commits to Arkansas

Amite (LA) wide receiver Jervenski Johnson (6-5, 190) - the cousin of current Arkansas quarterback Brandon Mitchell - has committed to the Razorbacks.

Sometimes it's just getting in the right position at the right place before the right people.

That's the story with Amite (LA) athlete Jervenski Johnson (6-5, 190, 4.4), who confirmed Wednesday afternoon that he has become the Razorbacks'' eighth commitment of the 2013 class

After working out at safety for most of camp, he switched to wide receiver at the end Monday night and electrified the Razorback coaches.

That resulted in Johnson, who is a cousin of current Razorback quarterback and former Amite star Brandon Mitchell, getting an offer from Arkansas.

"I was very excited about it," Johnson said. "I got out there, worked hard and showed them what I could do."

Johnson, also a standout football and baseball player, also has an offer from UAB – where former Arkansas assistant Garrick McGee is now the head coach.

Johnson, who played last season at Ponchatoula, plays both wide receiver and safety for his high school team.

"I need to get stronger, but I feel like I have good speed and can go get the football," Johnson said. "I think I can get better."
