New Arkansas Uniforms Wow Recruits
While there are some traditionalists who are not happy about changes to Arkansas' new football uniforms, those who are going to be wearing them are thrilled.
Arkansas signee Demetrius Wilson – one of three incoming freshman set to arrive on campus in July to join his teammates – was blown away by the new Nike Pro Combat uniforms.
"The new uniforms are awesome," Wilson said. They look tight, light and give those of us who are part of the Hogs motivation to do big things.
"If we feel good and look good, we play good," Wilson added. "But it's also only a uniform and we have to put the work in. But the jerseys have HogSwag."
Razorback commit and Fayetteville High star Alex Brignoni said he can't wait to put one of the uniforms on.
"Oh, wow," Brignoni said. "They are the sickest uniforms I have ever seen. I love the dark (gray) uniforms and really love the white helmets. I think they did a great job being creative and I can't wait to put those on as a Razorback."
Brignoni and teammates Austin Allen and Brooks Ellis all got a chance to see the uniforms when they committed to the Razorbacks back on May 21st.
There are three different uniforms – red, white and anthracite (gray) – and two helmets (red and white) with several combinations off of those.
They are also made of a fabric that makes the uniforms lighter than the old ones as the players go through the game and sweat.
"I really like them and think they are very classy," Allen said. "The day we committed we had a chance to see them in Coach Smith's office and we were all very excited. They are a lot better than last season's uniforms and I know we all think they are very cool."
Ellis said "they are sweet and probably one of the best in the country."
Tulsa Booker T. Washington safety Dominique Alexander (6-2, 200), who plans to commit to the Razorbacks next week, was certainly enthused about the new uniforms.
"Those are the best looking uniforms I have ever seen," Alexander said. "Those three different uniforms and two different helmets are just great. We know have so many combinations. It's just great. They are so much better than the old ones. Arkansas' uniforms are so cool now. I love the white helmet. I think I like them even more than the red ones."
Bolivar (MO) quarterback Rafe Peavey (6-2, 205) – who become Arkansas' first 2014 pledge earlier this week – was also excited about the change.
"I saw them and just love them, especially the white helmet," Peavey said. "Guys are going to be so fired up to play in them. They are different and unique. I know I am excited that those are going to be the uniforms I am going to wear in college."
Pine Bluff sophomore tight end Will Gragg, the brother of current Razorback tight end Chris Gragg and someone who got an offer from Arkansas earlier this week, was pleased.
"I love them," Gragg said. "They are both retro and modern. They are what everybody else is doing and finally we have caught up."
