Summer Plans

Arkansas players have a busy summer planned after they are done in Omaha.

OMAHA, Neb. - No one is thinking about anything but the College World Series right now, but many of the Arkansas baseball players have busy summers planned.

Part of college baseball is the preparation in the summer months. If you have good players, teams in the Cape Cod League are going to seek your players. Arkansas assistant coach Todd Butler said teams from the best summer league for amateur players have been asking for UA players.

"More and more, Cape Cod wants our guys," Butler said Friday at the CWS. "I think every one of our guys who doesn't need some down time with an injury is headed somewhere to play.

"It's important to keep playing and seeing the top competition and that's what our guys are committed to doing. That's how you get here (to the College World Series), play against the best all year."

The Arkansas players headed to the Cape Cod League this summer are Ryne Stanek, Brandon Moore, Dominic Ficociello, Colby Suggs, Barrett Astin, Jacob Morris, Jake Wise. Stanek is also slated to pitch for Team USA on a summer tour. The Hogs also have players headed to the Northwoods League this summer. That group includes Brian Anderson, David Masters, Conor Costello and Joe Serrano.

Catcher John Clay Reeves would have been a candidate for summer play, too, but he'll need surgery to correct a torn tendon in his finger that has bothered him for the last few weeks.
