Friday Grid Update, 8/17

Arkansas was without Dennis Johnson as the football team worked for two hours in preparation for a Saturday scrimmage. Eric Bennett returned on a limited basis.

Arkansas worked for two hours Friday afternoon in preparation for a scrimmage. Safety Eric Bennett returned for the first half of the workout, but did not participate in team work. It was the most work Bennett, bothered by a hamstring injury, has gotten in the first two weeks of fall camp.

Running back Dennis Johnson was absent after his grandmother passed away. He will miss Saturday's scrimmage, set for 7 p.m. in Reynolds Razorback Stadium.

Linebackers Tenarius Wright and Alonzo Highsmith both sat out Friday's workout. Linebacker Otha Peters appeared to be bothered by a slight injury. He went through most of the workout, but had a slight limp late in the day.

Terrell Williams and Kiero Small got most of the snaps with the first team at linebacker. Braylon Mitchell and Peters were with the twos at inside linebacker. With Small spending most of the day with the linebackers, Morgan Linton and Kody Walker took the bulk of the snaps at fullback. Walker continues to work also at running back.

It was a typical good day for quarterbacks Tyler Wilson and Brandon Allen. Both were razor sharp with their passing. Wide receivers Cobi Hamilton, Brandon Mitchell and Julian Horton produced big plays at different points in the workout. Ronnie Wingo and Chris Gragg also turned in nice catches in the passing game.

Ross Rasner and Rohan Gaines continue to get the snaps with the first team at the two safety spots. Jerry Mitchell and Alan Turner are working as the second safeties.

There were no interviews Friday. John L. Smith and players spoke earlier in the day at the annual kickoff luncheon.
