While many of Arkansas' football commitments are preparing for their first game next week, one of them is also battening down the hatches for a foe that is currently off shore.
Plantation (FL) American Heritage quarterback Tyler Cogswell (6-5, 235) has already has his school called off Monday as Hurricane Isaac prepares make landfall and bash into the Florida, Alabama and Mississippi coastline.
"I'm kind of used to those things now, but obviously they just want to be safe and they went ahead and called off school on Monday," Cogswell said. "That really won't mess us up or anything because we have Hudl and can just watch film online and study."
Cogswell – one of 14 Razorback commits in the 2013 recruiting class - led his team to a 25-17 preseason win over Coral Ridge on Friday in a game plagued by bad weather.
He threw for 112 yards and led his team on a 79-yard drive late in the fourth quarter for the go-ahead touchdown.
"I thought we played pretty well as a team - especially in the conditions - but we still have a lot to work on and that we can get better at," Cogswell said. "I felt like I played pretty good, but there are certainly some things I can improve on."
Cogswell, who committed to Arkansas in May after throwing for over 1,800 yards last season, was actually on hand in early August for the first week of the Razorbacks' preseason camp.
He stood behind the offense a lot during the workouts and intently watched Arkansas star quarterback Tyler Wilson.
"I felt like that helped me a lot," Cogswell said. "It helped me learn on how the offense at Arkansas works, what to expect from a college practice and I got to watch Tyler Wilson and learn from him. He's so good.
"It also helped me know for sure that Arkansas is where I want to be," Cogswell added. "I will be a Razorback."
American Heritage is coming off a 9-2 season last year, is ranked 15th overall in the state this season and ranked second in Class 5A.
The Patriots open the 2012 season this Friday against Clewiston.
"We lost in the first round of the state playoffs last season so it was a good year, but not a great one," Cogswell said. "We think we really have a chance to do something special this season."
