Arkansas' basketball program is finally back in the top five – just behind Florida, Memphis, Louisville and Duke.
Yes, it's only in the 2013 recruiting rankings for now, but that's still a big lift for a hoops program that has scuffled for over a decade now.
The commitments of 6-10, 225-pound big men Bobby Portis of Little Rock Hall and Moses Kingsley of Huntington Prep (WV) have launched the Razorbacks into that spot in the latest FOX Sports Next team rankings.
"I think Arkansas' 2013 class is off to a great start," notes Evan Daniels, FOX Sports Next national scouting director. "They have two quality post players committed that can help them immediately.
"While Portis is better offensively, they both can make an impact on the defensive end and on the glass," Daniels added.
"Arkansas was looking to upgrade their talent and locking up these two guys gives them just that," Daniels continued. "On top of that, they both fit Mike Anderson's system."
Portis is ranked as the 14th- best player in the 2013 class and Kinglsey comes in at 51st individually by FOX Sports Next.
The recruiting service – formerly known as Scout.com - regards Portis as the sixth-best power forward in the class and Kingsley the sixth-best center.
Portis averaged 16 points, 10.4 rebounds and 3.7 blocks as a junior for Hall, who went 27-3 last season.
Kingsley scored at a 12.4 points per game clip and also averaged 10.5 rebounds and 7.0 blocks per game last season as New Albany went 24-5.
Arkansas also is also still a major player for Mouth of Wilson (VA) Oak Hill Academy's Troy Williams, ranked 41st overall and the 10th-best small forward in FOX Sports Next's rankings.
"I think Coach Anderson and his staff do a solid job," FOX Sports Next analyst Brian Snow said. "Obviously they have a unique system that they recruit to, so not every prospect is for them. They identify who fits what they do and go out and target them."
Arkansas will begin practice Oct. 12 with Prime Time at the Palace.
The event will include an autograph session at 8 p.m. that will be followed at 9 p.m. by a dunk contest with celebrity judges and short practices by both the Lady Razorbacks and Razorbacks.
Fans are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for donation.
