When Arkansas plays football next season, it will be time to put another Shrimp on the Barbie, throw back a tallie and yabber about the new Razorback punter.
That's because Aussie-born punter Sam Irwin Hill (6-3, 210) – who made his first ever visit to Arkansas this weekend for an official visit -knows now that he will be on next year's Razorback roster.
"I pretty much knew I had the scholarship before I arrived and it was just a matter of getting here in Arkansas, talking with the coaches and getting everything straighten out," Irwin Hill said. "My visit went great and I can't wait to be a part of this football team."
Irwin Hill – a product of the Prokick Australia kicking academy - spent the past two seasons punting for City College of San Francisco.
The native of Bendigo, Victoria – which is two hours away from Melbourne - averaged 40 yards per boot during his freshman junior college season and improved that to 46.1 as a sophomore.
He dropped 15 of his 46 punts inside the 20-yard line and had a long kick of 77 yards.
That brought on scholarship offers from Miami, Louisiana Tech and Utah State and then the one from Arkansas this weekend.
He is expected to replace senior Dylan Breeding and Arkasnas now has 13 of its 25 scholarship spots in 2013 reserved with five junior college signees, Irwin Hill and seven high school commitments.
"It was a great experience," Irwin Hill said. "Arkansas has great facilities, great coaches and great players. It was great the way the players are so together as a family and were very welcoming to me."
Irwin Hill, who has one junior college semester left,l could not believe the passion of the Razorback fans at the Catfish Hole restaurant when the recruits had dinner there on Friday night.
"That was just amazing," Irwin Hill said. "I think half of Arkansas was there. The passion and support the fans base has for the Razorbacks is amazing. I am so glad I am going to be a part of that."
