Nebraska may be the acknowledged leader for Houston (Texas) Bellaire offensive lineman Dwayne Johnson, but he's allowing Arkansas to take its best shot to change that this weekend.
Johnson (6-6, 270) is one of seven official visitors that the Razorbacks are hosting this weekend and someone head coach coach Bret Bielema and his staff would love to steal late from the Cornhuskers.
"It is between Arkansas and Nebraska," Johnson said Friday before beginning his visit. "I wanted to take a visit to Arkansas because of the coaches and how they sold themselves and I wanted to come up and check out the campus and program for myself."
Johnson, who said he does not have a time line on his decision, has already taken official visits to Nebraska, Washington State and Purdue – a school he de-commited from earlier this month.
He chose to make a final visit to Arkansas instead of Oklahoma.
Johnson had a home visit with Bielema and Arkansas offensive line coach Sam Pittman on Monday and they talked him into giving the Razorbacks a last look.
"He (Pittman) is a great dude," Johnson said. "I love his character. Funny dude, funny guy."
"The academic standpoint plays a big part, the football program itself and I want to get to know more of the coaches," Johnson said. "I have around a 3.0 and want to study business."
Pittman has talked with Johnson about the Arkansas Business School, which is a prestigious one.
"At first he didn't know much about it because he had only been here a month so he was honest," Johnson said. "But then he came back after he had some more information about it so I am looking to getting to know more about the business program."
Arkansas is looking at Johnson as a tackle, but he says he doesn't really matter what spot he ends up at on the offensive line.
"I don't care," Johnson said. "I love all positions. Nebraska has told me the same thing (tackle)."
"I would say my strength is my strength in the weight room," Johnson said. "I have also been playing basketball and lost some weight so I want to get back in the weight room and gain that weight room.
Arkansas is also recruiting Bellaire tailback Denzell Evans (6-0, 205) , who is currently committed to Houston but scheduled to visit the Razorbacks next weekend.
"I believe that he is coming up next week and I believe that he is pretty big on Arkansas so he is looking forward to the visit," Johnson said. "We have (talked about playing together) but we are not sure yet."
