Arkansas Lands Dean

Arkansas lands a Texas prep standout on Sunday as Newton (Texas) cornerback D.J. Dean (5-11, 180) chooses the Razorbacks over Baylor and Utah.

There's a new Day dawning at the University of Arkansas and one Texas prep standout decided Sunday that he wanted to be a part of that.

Newton (Texas) cornerback D.J. Dean (5-11, 180) committed to the Razorbacks on Sunday after also considering offers from Baylor and Utah, where he had been committed at one point in the process..

"I loved everything about it," Dean said. "The fans – I like the support. The coaches. Just everybody shows love around here and I like that...I just love the family feeling and the town. I love the coaching staff. They are going to help me get to the next level. I am just ready to play.".

Dean tweeted out a picture of Arkansas secondary coach Taver Johnson and defensive coordinator Chris Ash and himself during this weekend..

"They are going to give me the tools I need to go to the league (the NFL)," Dean said. "They are going to do it.".

Dean played quarterback and cornerback this season for Newton , who was 13-1 this season. He rushed for over 1,000 yard and passed for over 1,000 yards, while accounting for 31 total touchdowns. .

He also added four interceptions and was hosted this weekend by Arkansas freshman linebacker Otha Peters..

"He was like my big brother this weekend," Dean said. "And now I will have some friends with my new teammates when I come back.".

Dean's offer list include the three aforementioned schools along with Illinois, North Texas, SMU, Tulane, Utah, Washington State, Arkansas State, McNeese State, Stephen F. Austin State, and Texas State..

Arkansas offered Monday after a home visit and Baylor offered on Wednesday as he has seen increased interest lately..

"This is all very exciting, but I know where I need to be and that's Arkansas," Dean said. "I'm sure about that.".
