Waiting For Duwop

Arkansas hosted four official visitors this week, have commitments from three of them and are waiting to see what happens with the fourth - New Jersey prep quarterback Damon Mitchell (6-3, 205).

Reports of Robert Griffin III being in Fayetteville Saturday night were not true, but there was a dual-threat quarterback of the same mold visiting the University of Arkansas this weekend.

That would be Egg City Harbor (NJ) Cedar Creek quarterback Damon Mitchell (6-3, 205), who does bear a resemblance to the former Heisman Trophy winner both on and off the field.

Mitchell had been committed to Georgia Tech before taking a home visit with new Razorback head coach Bret Bielema - who had been recruiting him while at Wisconsin - and deciding to take a visit to Arkansas this weekend.

"I had a really good time," Mitchell said during a quick interview on Sunday during a layover between flights. "Everything went really well."

Mitchell - whose nickname is Duwop - passed for 2,025 yards and 22 touchdowns and passed for 1,027 yards and 21 more scores as a senior this past season.

"Arkansas is an SEC school and I wanted to take a look at what they had to offer," Mitchell said. "I met with Coach Bielema last night because I had an early flight. He's cool."

Osceola standout Korliss Marshall – one of the three Razorback commits already this weekend – said Mitchell was playing up the resemblance to RG III.

"He enjoyed himself," Marshall said. "It was something different to him because he had been to so many places. He really enjoyed himself even though they said he doesn't like to go out much. They showed him a good time and he was just going with the flow.

"The funny thing about him is that he started telling people he was RG3's little brother because he kind of favors RG3," Marshall said. "Some of them believe them, but some of them thought it was a fluke. He is a good person to be be around."

He was reportedly told by Georgia Tech that he would have his scholarship pulled if he made the trip to Arkansas.

"I am not sure what is going on with Georgia Tech," Mitchell said. "It's been a pretty wild week."

Mitchell was hosted by Arkansas senior fullback Kiero Small.

"He was really a good guy, a funny guy," Mitchell said. "I had a good time hanging out with him."

Asked if Rutgers was still in the picture, Mitchell said "I don't think that's an option, but I don't know."

Mitchell wanted to get home before talking anymore about his next step.

"I just need to sit down with my coach and talk about things and go from there," Mitchell said. "Arkansas really impressed me."
