Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema and his staff make a major recruiting statement by landing Plantation (FL) South Plantation five-star tailback Alex Collins - arguably the best back in the nation and one of the top 20 players overall nationally per Scout.com

New Arkansas head football coach Bret Bielema and his staff just made a recruiting statement heard around the college football world by landing arguably the nation's best high school running back.

Plantation (FL) South Plantation tailback Alex Collins (5-11, 207) – rated by Scout.com as the top prospect in Florida - chose Arkansas Monday night on The NEW College Football Show: Next Class 2013 on Fox Sports South.

Collins, the nation's third-best tailback and the 17th overall prospect per Scout.com, chose the Razorbacks over Miami, Florida, Florida State, Wisconsin and Texas and becomes Arkansas' 21st pledge of the 2013 class.

"This is what I have been waiting for and I have been wanting to get this off my chest for awhile now," Collins told the television audience. "I would like to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of Arkansas."

"You know how you go into each school and try to see what you like about it and every school has something to offer," Collins said. "Everyone has basically the same major. Every football team has good players. Anywhere you go you have a great opportunity.

"But I like the fact (the Razorback staff) runs the ball and I personally know the coaches," Collins added. "I have been recruited by them for two years now so I think I can trust them. I feel they can get me to where I want to be both academically and athletically. I feel they will stay on top of me so if I have a problem in school, it won't end up being a problem because they will help push me through it."

He rushed for over 1,400 yards this past season and over 1,700 last year in his first season of organized football.

"I have a speed style and I have a power style and I have an elusive style," Collins said. "I like to be different and I never want to bring the same thing to the table every time I run the ball. I like to change it up."

Scott Kennedy, the director of recruiting for Fox Sports Next, said via twitter that Arkansas got an elite player.

"Arkansas makes a living surrounding an Elite player with a bunch of hard working blue collar kids. Hawgs just got an Elite Player," Kennedy said.

Arkansas now awaits the Wednesday decisions of Miami Booker T. Washington offensive lineman Denver Kirkland (6-5, 335), Houston (Texas) Bellaire offensive lineman Dwayne Johnson (6-6, 275) and Egg Harbor City (NJ) Cedar Creek quarterback Damon Mitchell (6-3, 205).

They are also hopeful of a signing day flip of North Little Rock tailback Altee Tenpenny (6-1, 21), who has been committed to Alabama for over a year.
