Arkansas Signs Duwop

The last signee to publicly acknowledge he was headed to Arkansas Wednesday was Egg Harbor City (NJ) dual-threat quarterback Damon Mitchell (6-3, 205), who chose the Razorbacks over Georgia Tech, Rutgers and Iowa.

Damon Mitchell was sure of where he wanted to go to college, but kept it to himself for a couple of days.

That ended Wednesday when Egg Harbor City (NJ) Cedar Creek star Mitchell (6-3, 205) - nicknamed Duwop - signed with Arkansas over Georgia Tech, Rutgers and Iowa among others.

"I feel relieved to finally make my decision," Mitchell told the " I wound up choosing Arkansas because it was the closest place to Cedar Creek. It's like my high school in that the coaches, professors and fans all care about you. And it's such a beautiful campus. I knew I was going there as soon as I got there for my visit last weekend.".

Cedar Creek head coach Tim Watson said his quarterback just felt a better fit at Arkansas instead of Georgia Tech, where he had been committed since last September.

"(He) loves being a quarterback," Watson said. "He loved Georgia Tech but he thinks the offense at Arkansas is better suited for him. He wants to be the best he can be and the level of competition both at Arkansas and in the SEC is going to push him. He's not a kid that backs down from a challenge, so I think he'll do very well. I'm so proud of him."

Mitchell passed for 2,025 yards and threw for 22 touchdowns while also rushing for 1,027 yards and 21 more scores.

He is a three-star prospect according to and the 58th best quarterback in the country.

Mitchell joins Fayetteville four-star quarterback Austin Allen (6-2, 205) - Scout's 30th-best quarterback in the country - as the two quarterback signees in the 2013 class for the Razorbacks.
