True freshman Jordan Farris slammed three of the Hogs' 15 hits, best for them in an SEC game this season. The Hogs snapped a four-game losing streak with a 12-2 laugher.
Farris had five RBI. He had a two-run single in the first, a two-run homer in the third. Dominic Ficociello also added a two-run homer and scored three times. Matt Vinson and Brett McAfee added three hits.
Arkansas ace Ryne Stanek, given a 6-0 run after three, allowed five hits in six innings. Stanek (5-2) left after the Aggies worked him for 114 pitches, but managed just one run. Michael Gunn worked the final three innings, allowing a ninth-inning run on three hits.
The Hogs (26-15, 10-7) battered four Aggie pitchers, scoring in all but two innings. Texas A&M (22-18, 7-10) looked dangerous in only the ninth, but Gunn was helped by a line-drive double play fielded by Ficociello.
"I thought we did a good job of being aggressive early," Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn said. "The biggest hit was a two-run single by Farris in the first. That made it a three-run lead, instead of one.
"A&M battled Stanek and pushed his pitch count up higher than we'd want early. We would have liked him to have gone a couple more innings."
Farris was starting for only the 11th game. His season average jumped to .326.
"He brings a lot of energy," Van Horn said. "He comes out with a smile every day. He likes to play. His teammates like him and he gives them energy."
Van Horn said energy was the key to Saturday's victory.
"After the way the game ended Friday night, I liked the energy we brought tonight," he said. "I'm proud of the team. We needed a win in the worst way."
Van Horn said Stanek has lifted the Hogs the last two weekends after Friday night losses.
"He's been pretty good," Van Horn said. "He pitched well tonight."
Stanek said, "I had decent stuff and command. I tried to pitch to contact with the lead, but they took a lot of pitches."
Stanek recorded a season-high nine strikeouts. His career high is 10 last year at LSU.
The rubber match of the series is at 1 p.m. Sunday. Randall Fant will pitch for the Hogs. ESPN2 will televise the game.
