Buckaroo Backer

Smackover has sent a few standouts to Arkansas in its history and linebacker Kevante Lowery (6-4, 210) hopes to be the next one.

There's been a few athletes from Smackover make it big at the University of Arkansas and Kevante Lowery is hoping to be the next.

Lowery (6-4, 210) is a linebacker prospect for the Buckaroos who hopes to get an offer from the Razorbacks after attending their camp June 9-11.

"I am really looking forward to getting up to Arkansas in June and showing then what I can do," Lowery said. "I just really love Arkansas and I would love to play there."

Lowery, who lines up at tailback, wide receiver, linebacker and defensive end for his team, is ranked as the 18th-best player in the state in 2014 by Hawgs Illustrated.

He came up to Arkansas for an unofficial visit in March.

Lowery hopes to follow in the footsteps of Buckaroos turned Razorbacks Clyde Scott and Jonathan Modica and got a chance to visit with Razorback defensive coordinator Chris Ash on his visit.

"I really like Coach Ash," Lowery said. "Mostly because of the defensive stuff he likes to run and how he stresses academics. I think he would be a great coach for me."

Arkansas, Arkansas State, Louisiana Tech, Oklahoma State, Ouachita Baptist, Oklahoma Baptist are among the schools that have been in contact about Lowery.

"I don't have any offers yet, but several of those are talking about offering if I get to their camp and they get a chance to watch me workout," Lowery said. "I am definitely going to go to Arkansas camp, one at Louisiana Tech and hopefully one at Oklahoma State."

Lowery ran a 4.67 40-yard dash at the Arkansas Combine recently in North Little Rock. It was a time that did not make him happy.

"I usually run a 4.5," Lowery said. "So that was not a good time for me. I need to get better and more consistent with my speed."
