HOOVER, Ala. - Now that the SEC Media Days have started, we now know exactly what time the Bret Bielema game era will begin at Arkansas as well as game times for the second and third contests as well.
That would be Aug. 31 at 3 p.m. when the Razorbacks host Lousiana-Lafayette at Reynolds Razorback Stadium in a game that will be televised live from Fayetteville by Fox Sports Net.
Bielema was 7-0 in his openers while the head coach at Wisconsin while Arkansas has won its last six openers and is 4-0 all-time against Louisiana-Lafayette.
"I think there has been a lot of excitement all around the state since the day Coach Bielema was hired with the fans getting to know him and his staff," noted Kevin Trainor, Arkansas' Associate Athletic Director for Public Relations and also the moderator of this week's SEC Media Days. "When you are finally beginning to close in on the start of the season – which SEC Media Days signal – you can really feel the excitement from the Razorback fans and the staff itself."
Bielema and three seniors – center Travis Swanson, defensive end Chris Smith and fullback Kiero Small – will be in Hoover on Wednesday for interviews on the second day of the three-day event and are pointing toward the first practice on Aug. 5.
"We've also got the opening of the new (Fred W. Smith Football Operations) Center soon and everybody getting prepared for the start of practice so it's just a great time for Arkansas football fans, the players and the staff," Trainor added.
It will be the first time since 1996 that Arkansas will not be opening with a night game and also the first time since 2006 that the first game has not been televised via pay-per-view.
The Razorbacks will follow up its opener with its first of two games in Little Rock this season as they host Samford in a 6 p.m. game that will be televised by pay per view.
The third game of the season will find Arkansas hosting Southern Mississippi in Fayetteville and will begin at 11:21 p.m. as part of the SEC Network package.
The Razorbacks have never played Samford or Southern Miss on the football field.
The only other kickoff time announced so far this season is the Nov. 29th game at LSU, which will begin at 1:30 p.m. in Baton Rouge.
