This has been coming for some time, and those who have been to other Insiders.com sites on the new Citadel network probably recognize that it's now here.
We are going to Premium Content on HI.com. In other words, there will be certain stories on the site that will only be available to those who have paid the signup fee. Some of the information on the site will remain free, including the Hawg Lounge. It will always be free, although we have added a Premium message board, the Insiders Board, to release some information and this board will also be off limits for those from other schools ... unless they pay for it.
However, some of the best information will be contained in Premium stories. The practice reports that I have been writing (with digital images) will be Premium stories and only available for those that signup and pay. Game stories will be Premium content.
There is a reason for all of this; we must see money coming in to support the website. We have done better than most with the Arvest sponsorship, but that only makes it a break-even proposition at best. We will continue to seek sponsorships to offset the cost of providing a quality website.
The cost of the Premium stories is $4.95 per month. It will go up November 1 to $6.95 per month when several features will be added. We will add a Premium Message Board at that time, Premium Chats, and an email alert that delivers an instant email when a Premium story is posted.
Also, the $4.95 per month will give you total access to the other college Premium College sites across the network.
There is a way to signup right now on the front page. It is listed in the Member Services area. First login to the network. Even if you are registered on our message board, you must login to the Citadel Network. Then, click on Premium Services in that section of the left-hand navigation bar. Even before you signup for the Premium stories, I'd encourage you to register on the site. This has nothing to do with the EZboard message board, the Hawg Lounge. It is a separate registration.
We will not publish any Premium stories until a week from today. We will continue to publish practice stories for free. I've been working hard to give you guys as much information as possible over the past few days. The practice stories and other content in the Premium area will be top-notch. We will also bring some feature stories to the Premium section.
I'd be happy to answer any questions about the Premium Content on the board.
I have studied this long and hard before making this decision. I know that some will not like it. It was a tough business decision, but it will enable HI.com to grow and be its best.
Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some Frequently Asked Questions (with answers) about Premium Content:
Yes, we have gone to Premium content at Hawgs Illustrated.com. You can sign up now. We began to post Premium stories on Tuesday, Aug. 21.
First, you must login to the system. Go to the member services link on the front page of HawgsIllustrated.com and login. It is not the same as being logged into the message board. You must have an account with our network (and the message board is not a part of the network). You will establish your ID and password with your login to the network.
Then, after you login, you will then register for premium content.
Some of you have done the latter, without registering in the system so you don't have a password and ID. It won't work. Try it again, after logging into the system.
Right now, the only way to sign up for premium content is with a credit card from a US address. If you are trying from Canada, the system won't take it.
If you don't have a credit card, you will have to wait a bit. We are establishing a system in which you can send a check. Be patient, the system will be changed so that the checks can be taken. I've demanded it, so we'll see what happens.
Also, the recruiting database will be available only if you sign up for a recruiting pass. However, we will establish a recruiting database via Otis Kirk's lists and information so it will be available through our premiumn site. Both Dudley and Otis will write stories and establish a premium section on HI.com for recruiting. I would think we may add several sections on recruiting.
But, if you want the network database for recruiting, you will have to get that on top of HI.com. That is not within HI.com.
Also, I forgot to include that Don Oglesby will be included in our premium content section, and we will have daily practice stories that Don, myself and Dudley write during hoops season. I pledge to upgrade our basketball coverage on HI.com.
I'll keep answering your questions, but those seem to be the answers to the major questions at this point.
Another Trouble Shooting Lesson, as posted on the Hawg Lounge with more Frequently Asked Questions answered:
Okay, it's a little confusing, so I'll go through all of this again, and then again, don't be afraid to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are still having trouble.
First, let me emphasize that the Insiders board is free for one more week. I am giving you a password that will be in use for just one week. Then, only our paid subscribers who went for the Premium content will get the new password.
However, that password to the Insiders board is unrelated to anything you have registered for to this point. You MUST be registered in the EZboard system to post once you get there, but that password won't gain you access to the site. For now, the only thing that will get you access to the Insiders board is a password and it has nothing to do with the one you entered when you signed up for the Citadel Premium content. It is a password that I have assigned for the time being and it will be changed next week. Again, it's free and it is:
Remember to put in the exclamation mark at the end. And, don't enter your email for the Insiders board ID. All you need is the password to get on the board.
Now, after you get to the board, you must be registered in the EZboard system. You will have to get a nickname and a password. Most of you already have that. And, it has nothing to do with anything you've gotten from Citadel.
Now, let's talk about Premium stories on the front page. They are now locked. You access them by signing up through the Citadel's Member Services that is included in our left-hand links on the boards and on the front page.
After you do this, you will click on the Premium stories on our front page. They are identified by a star at the end of the headline. When you click on the headline, you will be asked for an email and a password. And, then here is the tricky part. First, you have to establish an account under MY ACCOUNT in member services. That is free. After you've done that, you must signup for Premium Services. That is when you pay.
So, when you click on the Premium story, you will then enter your email address and the password you established in the Citadel Member Services when you signed up under MY ACCOUNT.
Yes, it's complicated. There is good news. The system retains your computer's cookies. After you've logged in, it does it simply for you the next time ... at least it does if you have cookies in your computer.
And, another good thing is that you can login from three different computers and it will remember the cookies from all three. You just enter the email address you used, and the password ... even if you don't use that email address from that computer. It doesn't matter. You cannot get a second email address unless you pay again. But, you don't need to do that. You will have the ability to use that email address in the login for three different computers.
