Pierce Prepared For Arkansas Viist

In his weekly recruiting column for Hawgs Illustrated, Dudley E. Dawson catches up with Florida prep tight end Ravian Pierce (6-4, 220), Alex Collins' former teammate who will take his official visit to Arkansas this weekend and be part of a large group of football and basketball prospects on hand.

It should come as no surprise that a ton of high school hoop and grid prospects are coming to Fayetteville this weekend to see Arkansas and Texas A&M's Johnny Football get it on.

The basketball program will officially host its future point guard in North Little Rock senior Anton Beard (6-1, 180) as well as unofficial visitors in Charging Wildcat junior KeVaughn Allen (6-3, 180) and Bentonville sophomore Malik Monk (6-4, 170)

The grid prospects in for the Razorbacks' game with Texas A&M and Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel are headed up by a lone official visitor in tight end Ravian Pierce (6-4, 220) of Plantation, Fla.

Pierce, a former high school teammate of current Razorback freshman tailback Alex Collins, doesn't try to hide the fact that he plans to be an Arkansas commitment when the weekend is over if all goes well.

"That is very definitely a possibility if everything is like Alex and the coaches are telling me it is," Pierce said. "If it is, I am definitely planning on committing."

That would be a huge get for a couple of reasons, including the fact that Pierce has 27 offers from the likes of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Ohio State, Nebraska, Florida State, Wisconsin Louisville, Miami and Wisconsin.

"Really the only three that I am still looking at Arkansas, Florida and Alabama," Pierce said.

He also is the type of playmaker the Razorbacks are looking to get into the offense as he had 12 catches for 208 yards and 5 touchdowns last season.

Pierce has caught 3 passes for 47 yards and one score this season in a 3-1 start.

"I think my versatility is my biggest strength," Pierce said. "If I have a cornerback or a safety on me, it's just like posting up in basketball and he's not going to be able to stop me from getting the ball.

"If a linebacker is covering me, I am going to be able to outrun him," Pierce added. "I need to work on everything to get better, but those are two things that I bring to the field."

Collins has been in Pierce's ears about how much he enjoys Arkansas.

"He just loves it there," Pierce said. "Loves the coaches, his teammates, the fans and just the entire state. He talks about what great facilities they have, what great food and just great people there in Fayetteville."

Pierce has already made unofficial trips to both Alabama and Florida.

He makes it clear the coach that he is tightest with among those recruiting him is Arkansas defensive line coach Charlie Partridge.

"I think Coach Partridge is a great guy and he and I have a great, great relationship," Pierce said. "He has made it clear how much he wants me to be a Razorback and how he wants to get me out there and committed as soon as possible."

Pierce also knows that Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema has several of his former tight ends playing in the NFL right now.

"I know they throw it to the tight ends a lot and have a lot of guys in the league," Pierce said. "I think I could be one of his next guys if I put in the work."
