Could Rogers' Zack Wary be this recruiting class' Korliss Marshall for Arkansas?
Marshall (6-0, 195, 4.3) was, of course, one of the fastest and most productive high school players in the state last season for Osceola.
Many people took a look – including several SEC schools – but for the longest his only offers were from Arkansas State and UCA.
The Razorbacks stepped in during January with a late offer and ended up with an explosive player that showed his potential by rushing 17 times for 142 yards (an 8.6 average per carry) and averaging 22.1 yards per kick return.
No doubt many SEC schools are now wishing they acted on the impulse of signing Marshall.
Whether Marshall ends up as his preferred position of safety or at running back, he seems very poised to be a big contributor.
There are certainly parallels to be drawn between Marshall and Wray, a highly-productive linebacker prospect that has had over 100 tackles in each of the past two seasons.
Wray (6-4, 220, 4.45) had a plethora of small college offers as well as Air Force and interest from Ivy League schools, but landed a big one Sunday night when Arkansas offered.
He is one of 20 or so prospects set to take an official visits to head coach Bret Bielema's Arkansas program on the weekend of Dec. 13-15.
"I was very excited about the offer from Arkansas and feel very honored that they extended one to me," Wary said. "Obviously when you are at a school for the first year and you are rebuilding, it's going to be tough as it was for the Razorbacks this season.
"But I feel like Coach B is a great coach and they have a great coaching staff and are going in the right direction," Wary said. "I think they will be competing for the top of the SEC again very soon."
His offer from Arkansas could be followed up by two more next week as Auburn and Oklahoma State are due to make home visits to see Wary.
"Both of those teams have had great seasons and I have actually been over to see a couple of Oklahoma State games (against Kansas State and Kansas)," Wary said. "I have had some good conversations with Auburn, too."
While he wouldn't definitely rule out a commitment to Arkansas in the near future, Wary is presently of the mind to let the process play itself out.
"I just want to see how things work out with these other two schools and just see what all options there are for me at the end," Wary said. "I have been patient so far and just want to continue to be smart about things."
That shouldn't be hard considering Wary sports a 4.0 grade point average and scored a 33 on his ACT, which brought around the Ivy League schools.
"The one thing that I am factoring in most is that this is not just a four or five-year decision," Wary said. "It is a decision that is going to affect me for a lifetime so there is no need to rush into making one."
Arkansas is hosting four players on official visits this weekend, including Meridian, Miss., four-star safety C.J. Hampton (6-1, 193), a U.S. Army All-American who is committed to Ole Miss and also looking at Alabama, LSU and Florida State among others.
He joins the St. Louis, Mo., Christian Brothers duo of Arkansas defensive tackle pledge Armon Watts (6-5, 275) and U.S. Army All-American offensive lineman Brian Wallace (6-6, 300).
The Razorbacks are also hosting a wide receiver that is currently committed elsewhere.
The Arkansas staff has been on the road recruiting daily since Sunday and will be through the end of the open period on Dec. 15.
Bielema tweeted the following on Thursday morning:
"Has been a great couple of days in recruiting in many ways," Bielema's tweet started. "Great reception from prospects & coaches all over the country and beyond. #WPS
