CONWAY - The arguably best three basketball players in each of the next three classes will on display today in Conway in the Class 7A State Tournament.
That will happen when North Little Rock (24-2) meets Bentonville (19-5) in a 2:30 p.m. semifinal at Buzz Bolding Arena.
The Charging Wildcats feature Arkansas point guard signee Anton Beard (6-1, 180), juniors KeVaughn Allen (6-3, 190) and K.J. Hill (6-1, 180) and sophomore Adrian Moore (6-4, 175).
The Tigers are led by the sophomore backcourt of Malik Monk (6-4, 170) and Tyreek Dixon.
"He (Monk) is very explosive," Allen said. "He is a good shooter and can play defense…But you just can't play to him, you have to play to the whole team and we have got to play hard."
Allen took an unofficial visit to Florida this weekend for their win over Kentucky and knows of at least three of the five official visits he will take in the near future.
"I am going to Arkansas, Florida and Kansas and haven't made the rest of my decisions yet," Allen said.
Arkansas is obviously a program that would love to keep Allen in-state.
"It is in my home state, and I like Arkansas, like their the style of play," Allen said. "…People have been downing them and I don't want to see that. They have been winning lately and it is just a good school all around."
Allen has scholarship offers from Arkansas, Kansas, Florida, Memphis, Louisville, Arizona, Connecticut, Baylor, Virginia, Nebraska, and Mississippi State.
"By the end of this summer, I will have cut down to five schools," Allen said. "I will take all five (official visits)."
No matter what happens in today's game, Allen will keep his same stoic face.
"No matter what is going on out there, you just can't play to the crowd," Allen said. "You have just got to stay calm and play through it."
He was the state tournament MVP last season and is the only regular back from that squad that won the title.
"This year we are going to have to play way harder than we did last year," Allen said. "We going to have to rebound and do more things than we did last year."
