Johnson Weighing His Options

Avery Johnson has offers from only Southern Miss and Arkansas State, but he has visited Arkansas and North Carolina.

Arkansas has not offered him yet, but Avery Johnson said he is still hopeful the Razorbacks eventually will.

The 6-2, 210-pound athlete has played several positions at Highland High School in Hardy, Ark., but Arkansas is recruiting him as a safety.

Johnson was in Fayetteville March 1 for Arkansas' Junior Day and he was really impressed by the facilities and coaches.

"The facilities were the best I have ever seen. They were amazing. I've never seen anything like it," Johnson said. "The coaches were really friendly, too."

He said he had an opportunity to talk to head coach Bret Bielema, as well as defensive coordinator and secondary coach Robb Smith.

The coaches invited him to a camp this summer, where they will evaluate him more.

Southern Miss and Arkansas State are Johnson's only offers so far. He has already visited Southern Miss and plans to visit Arkansas State this spring.

North Carolina has also expressed interest in him. He visited the Tar Heels this weekend.

Along with the Arkansas camp, Johnson is attending a camp at Oklahoma State this summer, as well.

Because he still hasn't visited all of the schools he's considering and has a couple of camps to attend, Johnson said he doesn't know when he'll make his final decision.

"I really haven't thought about it," Johnson said. "I'll see what happens this summer and go from there."
