Stewart Names Arkansas His Leader

Highland wideout Deon Stewart (6-1, 163, 4.48) got to see Arkansas practice on Tuesday and left with the Razorbacks firmly as his leader.

After a Tuesday afternoon visit to watch Arkansas practice, Highland junior wide receiver Deon Stewart has the Razorbacks squarely atop his list.

Stewart (6-3, 165) has offers from Arkansas, Ole Miss, Louisville, Tulsa, Arkansas State and Southern Miss.

"I thought it was great," Stewart said. "I got a chance to see the academic center and got to watch them practice for the first time, which was really fun to do. I had seen all the weight room and all the facilities when I came up for Junior Day, but this gave me a chance to really get an even better look at the overall program and I really liked it all."

Stewart said that a recent visit to Ole Miss had put them near the top with Arkansas, but his Tuesday in Fayetteville got the Razorbacks back in the lead.

"I was real impressed with Ole Miss, but after visiting with the coaches today I am thinking that Arkansas is the place I need to be," Stewart said.

Stewart, who was born in Newport, had 36 catches for 757 yards and 8 touchdowns and also rushed 27 times for 448 yards and four more scores and is impressed with Razorback wide receivers coach Michael Smith.

"He had lunch with me when I came up for the Junior Day and we really hit it off," Stewart said. "I've always liked him and liked watching him coach today at the practice."

Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema was hopeful Stewart was ready to join the committed list on Tuesday.

"He said that we could walk over and call my mom and get this all wrapped up right now," Stewart said. "It was tempting, but I want to go home and talk it over with my mom before I make any decision."
