Barnett Narrows Choices to Arkansas and OU
The Razorbacks have been named as one of two finalists for one of the nation's best offensive lineman.
Lawton, Okla., four-star offensive guard Jalin Barnett (6-3, 303) told The Oklahoman sports writer Ryan Aber Friday that he was down to Arkansas and Oklahoma and would be choosing from one of those two schools.
Barnett, who has a 350-pound bench press and 480-pound squat, took an unofficial visit to Arkansas back on June 13 and praised Razorback offensive line coach Sam Pittman.
“He told me how great the O-line was and he was a good coach and how he could develop me,” Barnett said. “He said he loves me. I can tell we have a good relationship.”
Arkansas will have two openings on the offensive line next season, including one at left guard and one at right tackle.
"Arkansas is telling me I can come right in and start if I work hard because they are losing two guys," Barnett said.
Scout.com recruiting analyst Greg Powers had this to say about Barnett, who has a 3.8 grade point average:
“Plays tackle in high school, but looks like the protoypical guard prospect for college,” Powers said. “He is strong at the point of attack and once he locks on to a defender he does a good job of keeping his feet moving and finishing the play with aggression. He can struggle sometimes on the island with quick DE in pass pro, but moving inside he will have protection on both sides and his quick feet and long arms should make that one of his big strengths.”
Barnett, who also said he is not close to announcing a decision, does plan to make all five of his official visits with trips to Arkansas, Oklahoma, Oregon State, Tennessee being definite visits.
He is choosing from Oklahoma State, Alabama, Auburn, Stanford, Texas Tech and UCLA for that fifth and final visit and told Aber he will make a decision during the season on his college choice.
Barnett, ranked as the sixth-best guard nationally by Scout.com, is the number one ranked player in the state of Oklahoma per both Scout.com and The Oklahoman.
